Floral prints have been a persistent trend in womenswear for as long as we can remember, but now the trend is blooming on runways in today’s globalized world of menswear. We aren’t talking about those aloha shirts your dad once wore on vacation in the 90’s. For the past few spring/summer seasons, fashion houses including Prada, Paul Smith, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, and Dries Van Noten have been using bold colors and unique designs to create pieces that shine with a fresh perspective. With millennials eager to embrace fashion and use it as an expression of their creativity, I have a feeling that this floral trend will really catch this season. Quickly trickling down from the runway to the street style scene, expect to see some flowers at your favorite retailers this spring and summer. From micro-print florals to embroidered jacquards, you’ll see some awesome (and affordable) floral prints at J Crew, Top Man, Club Monaco, Uniqlo, ZARA, and ASOS.

So now you’re probably thinking…there is no way in hell you can expect me to wear a floral shirt. That’s why we’re taking baby steps and not going full-blown floral! Here at the Chicago Chic, we want to show the modern gent how to incorporate the floral trend without looking like a walking greenhouse or undermining his masculinity. This baby step is bringing some flower power to your tie or even a pocket square. It’s a great way to capture the trend for those who want to take the more subtle approach. Here I have two strong elements, a wide peaked lapel flannel suit and a contrast collar shirt, and I’ve paired them with an intricate FLORAL tie.
