If you’re not familiar with FLATs Chicago, well, now you do. An excellent concept that was founded to rent out design apartments for anyone that is looking to rent a well designed space. In their own words, their mission couldn’t have been put better: ‘The FLATS™LiFE is to live well. To create. To rearrange. And rearrange again. To be nimble, yet heard. To pioneer. To love community. To have a home with a soul. Value, individuality, and character make us tick. Authenticity is our addiction. We are anything but expected. We create our own finishes. We thrive on bicycles and great coffee. Dogs keep us running. We believe that living well is a necessity and we spend our lives curating what we simply call The FLATS™LiFE.’
Noticed where they mentioned ‘To love community’, well, hang on tight because this company has a surprise for local Chicago artists and art enthusiasts alike. Flats has launched their latest edition to FLATS STUDIO, an initiative that gives local artists a platform to exhibit their art form at FLATS Studio Galleries in the Historic Uptown neighborhood. Here’s their mission, which excites me to say the least:
FLATS STUDIO IS OUR WAY OF USING EMPTY STOREFRONTS AND VACANT COMMERCIAL SPACES IN FLATS BUILDINGS TO SUPPORT, ENGAGE AND ENCOURAGE THE ARTISTIC SPIRITS OF OUR NEIGHBORS. AT FLATS, WE BELIEVE THAT ANY OPEN SPACE CAN BECOME A BLANK CANVAS FOR THE ARTS.
FLATS Studio’s upcoming contemporary art event, Gravity will act as the kick off and launch of their new gallery space on West Wilson Avenue. Curated by Audra Jacot (we can’t wait to feature her!), the show relates the work of Chicago artists within the context of uncontrollable, unforeseen forces.
The work shown is that of Chicago artists. Exhibiting artists include:
