We all know about the great Chicago fire and all the sad stories that it came with. But what if you were to turn all that sadness around and turn it into a celebration? Introducing to you- The Great Chicago Fire Festival, yay. The first of it’s kind and what would be an annual event, The Great Chicago Fire Festival plans to get the river walk lit up in flames on October 4 with a pyrotechnic spectacle that’s promised to be one of a kind.
Here are the details:
In partnership with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, Redmoon Theater presents The Great Chicago Fire Festival, celebrating Chicago’s epic resurgence and strength after the Great Fire of 1871, and the grit of its people that propelled us forward to build anew.
Highlights of the Spectacle will include fiery cauldrons lowered from the bridges, hundreds of kayakers pulling flaming buoys and prairies gardens, and three floating sculptures resembling pre-1871 homes that will be set ablaze, each revealing a dramatic, symbolic interior core. The finale will feature a fireworks display set to music and a moving tribute to Chicago’s neighborhoods.
The inaugural Great Chicago Fire Festival will light up our city with a spectacle of fire on the Chicago River.
October 4 at 8 p.m., on the Chicago River between State St. and Columbus Dr.
