With a new addition to our family, I’ve had to plan our holiday preparations well in advance… from special recipes for the whole family, to games and other activities to fill the day. I’ve been exploring new trendy recipes, cocktails, and most importantly Champagne. Every year, we travel to the UK to celebrate Christmas with my husband’s family. I have always been in charge of Christmas morning. We have a tradition to prepare boards of cheeses, smoked salmon on top of cream cheese, crumpets, and richly filled croissants– freshly baked in our oven. Champagne is always the highlight of the celebration. In our family, we like to start early and enjoy Champagne throughout the day while we wait in anticipation of our delicious feast. This year, I discovered a Champagne like never before, Le Medaillon. Those of you who know me know I am a big fan of both wine and Champagne. When I say that this is a Champagne that I truly can’t compare to any other, you know what that means…and I’m really excited to share why.
Champagne is the celebratory drink of choice. It’s fresh, fragrant, crisp, and makes everyone happy. Here are a few tips on how to select a Champagne that will impress your guests, and more importantly, one that everyone will enjoy.
- First of all, make sure it’s made in the Champagne region of France. While sparkling wines can come from all over the world, to be called Champagne it must be produced in the Champagne region of France. Prosecco and Cava alternatives offer a delicious fizz as well, but they are not Champagne.
- Examine the Bubbles- the smaller and more pinpoint the bubbles are, the better the fermentation process (méthode champenoise for Brut and méthode saignée for Rosé). The finer the bubbles, the finer the Champagne- another reason why I fell in love with Le Medaillon. Small bubbles make the drink crisp yet smooth.
- Observe the bubbles further- they should leave a trail from the bottom of the flute rather than cling to the side of the glass.
- Choosing taste- if you’re looking for a more ‘dry’ Champagne, opt for Brut (an option offered by Le Medaillon) for a sweeter Champagne, go for a Rosé – it’s my absolute favorite and I can probably drink the whole bottle alone! Le Medaillon makes by far the best Rosé Champagne I’ve ever come across and I highly recommend their Rosé (made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes)
- Try and aim for a grower Champagne, which means that all the grapes come from the same vineyard. Most Champagne brands source their grapes from multiple vineyards, but every grape used to produce Le Medaillon Champagne is grown at the same vineyard.
The Le Medaillon Champagne is particularly special because it manages to invigorate all the senses- its crisp taste and flavors, light fruity aroma, the uniform crackling effervescent sound and the smooth texture that’s swished around your mouth that’s unmatchable. This handcrafted Champagne is grown and produced using old world techniques by the House of Cheurlin – distinct winemakers in Celles-Sur-Ource, France since 1788. It’s made from 60 + year old grapes and aged for 30 months (perfect age). Needless to say- Le Medaillon ticks all the boxes for me: light and crisp with a hint of fruity aromas (specifically the delicious Rosé, guys!!). Without a doubt, I’m packing a few bottles to pop open this Christmas while unwrapping presents with my little one and introducing him to his new family. I can’t promise any bottles will be left over for New Year’s Eve, I’m worried our family will make us pop all the bottles by then!
