Summer Trends with Topshop Chicago

No more layers, boots, coats or wool socks, Summer is officially here and here to stay.. for now at least! As the weather heats up it is essential to clean out your closet.. (Yes you heard me) our summer style philosophy is “if it’s too complicated why bother?” Summer calls for lazy mornings and last-minute dinner dates. This seasons trends are all about how to look edgy and effortless. Last week I teamed up with Topshop to give you the up to the minute trends and tips on how to rock your carefree self this Summer!

That 70s Girl:

It’s hard to ignore the fact that the 70’s are everywhere these days but we aren’t complaining. Patterns, fabric, and fringe you name it are sneaking their way into every store.  From velvet to corduroy the more the merrier. 70’s fashion is often called the “Me Decade” depicting the new attitude of hippies and hipsters during that time. Brown was the new black and fringe was the new cotton.

For this look I paired a corduroy mini skirt with buttons up the front and scarf print short-sleeved silk top. Mixing textures is a must this summer. Pairing a lighter texture such as silk with a heavier texture like corduroy give the look a more sophisticated touch. The biker leather jacket brings the outfit together  adding to the different textures. The tassel saddle bag is the “it” factor on this outfit. The fringe and suede finish this ensemble making it a wearable outfit for going out in or even to festivals.

The Ballerina:

Theres nothing we love most than a clever twist on a classic trend. Tutu inspired skirts have been making their way back into mainstream fashion lines recently and we all know what your thinking… Carrie Bradshaw is the only one that can pull this look off. Not the case. Tulle or Ballerina skirts can easily look costume like if worn in a certain way.

For this look I wanted to give off a more casual look, by paring this elegant tutu skirt with something more casual like this blue tank it gives off a more acceptable wear during the day. The metallic shoes give the look the perfect touch adding a little glam to the outfit.

It’s all about the Cut:

Trends always range from colors, to fabrics, to patterns. This summer it’s about the cut. Crop tops are in like always but take note that different geometric shapes and waves are in as well. Putting together theses different shapes in clothing give off a chic modern look. It makes the outfit look more minimalistic and complicated at the same time.

I paired a black wrap front crop top with a wave hem mini skirt to mix shapes. The white cut off blazer was the perfect touch to this look adding a conservative appeal.
