What I wore to a Kentucky Derby party

The Kentucky Derby is an event that separates itself from many. For years the Kentucky Derby has not only been centered around the horse races, but is an entire day filled with parties, fashion and traditions. The Derby is a celebration, and where you celebrate the Derby matters! Chicago is far away from all the southern shenanigans, but Chicago manages to bring the Kentucky Derby to the city every year. Hats, bow ties, and southern belle gowns, the Derby is a showcase for spring fashion. It is a preview to warmer weather to come.

Last weekend I had the opportunity of attending a Kentucky Derby Party, and this is what I wore.

Wearing a hat to the Kentucky Derby is believed to be good luck! This tradition was first established by women and, over the last few years, men have started to join in. I paired this black crop top with this floral skirt to give the look a more conservative feel.

I wanted the skirt to be the focus point of my outfit. I found this skirt actually in a small store right off the Belmont stop on the Red line called Nevermind! When I saw this skirt I had to have it. Flowers and color are the perfect combination for the races and very much in tune with Spring!

Here are a few skirts we’ve picked for you, in line with the trend:

The Coast to Coast Kentucky Derby Viewing party with Vineyard Vines took place at Del Friscos Double Eagle Steakhouse. The event was filled mix and mingling with other Southern Belles and casting your bets on the horse races. It was a day of celebration filled with wine and endless Mint Jubilees!
