West Town Bakery Loves You

A food review of West Town Bakery by Leah Nolan of the Chicago Chic.

Almost eleven years ago Gretchen Wieners screamed, “You can’t sit with us!” and incited a worldwide discussion on the culture of bullying. The Kind Campaign coined the phrase “You can sit with us” in an effort to encourage inclusion and acceptance no matter race, sex, religion or socioeconomic status. West Town Bakery takes on the same ideology, “Our food is meant to be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of lifestyle, allergies, moral beliefs, or health condition.” With the ability to make cakes, pastries and menu items vegan, soy-free, nut-free, dairy-free and gluten-free, they cater to the needs of all.

With inclusion comes a commitment to the planet, West Town Bakery uses local and sustainable ingredients and products, down to the last light bulb. The colorful and eclectic space only uses environmentally approved packaging, eco-friendly cleaning products, green-approved lighting and they are passionate about recycling. But can responsibility actually taste good? You better believe it.


At West Town Bakery, they don’t mess around when it comes to portion size.  While finishing each dish is possible, sharing is more plausible and inclusive. And isn’t it always more fun to share while trying several dishes at once?

Homestead Skillet

This farm fresh skillet is a veggie lovers dream (seriously, some of the veggies come from the rooftop garden). Served with potatoes, eggs and toast, this seasonally evolving dish is filling, clean, and well-structured.

Benedict Fresca

The Benedict Fresca is a south of the border inspired benedict that has all of the fixings. The perfectly poached eggs sit atop sliced avocado, queso fresco and creamy hollandaise. A well-toasted English muffin adds a textural contrast to the richer components of the dish.

Loaded Baked Potato Pancakes

Every bit as good as they sound, these hearty pancakes are made with potato batter and topped with Wisconsin cheddar mornay, green onions, two eggs, chopped bacon and a healthy spatter of sour cream. Needless to say, it’s a satisfyingly filling way to start to the morning.

Malted-Chocolate & Toffee Pancakes

While there are no words to describe how delectable these malted Cacao Barry chocolate battered pancakes are, they will make you a firm believer in starting the day with a sugar high. The sticky toffee provides a crunchy contrast to the velvety soft pancakes. Doused in a healthy pour of bourbon maple syrup, decadence is at the forefront.
